چکیده

In simulation–based performance evaluation, the simulation time is directly related to the complexity of the simulated systems. Since modern multiprocessor systems contain hundreds and even thousands of processors, simulation of such systems can be quite time–demanding. This paper studies multiprocessor systems with different numbers of processors but with the same utilizations of corresponding components; such systems are called performance equivalent. Performance equivalence can be used to simplify simulation–based performance analysis of complex systems by simulating much simpler systems which are equivalent with respect to performance to the original ones. It is shown that in some cases identifying performance equivalent systems is quite straightforward.

W.m. Zuberek: Performance of Fine-grain Multithreaded Multiprocessors Performance Analysis of Fine–grain Multithreaded Multiprocessors

Instruction–level multithreading is an architectural approach to tolerating long–latency memory accesses and synchronization delays in distributed–memory systems. The paper presents a timed Petri net model of a fine–grain multithreaded distributed–memory multiprocessor system at the instruction execution level, and illustrates performance analysis by results obtained from simulation of the deri...

A Multiprocessor System with Non-Preemptive Earliest-Deadline-First Scheduling Policy: A Performability Study

This paper introduces an analytical method for approximating the performability of a firm realtime system modeled by a multi-server queue. The service discipline in the queue is earliestdeadline- first (EDF), which is an optimal scheduling algorithm. Real-time jobs with exponentially distributed relative deadlines arrive according to a Poisson process. All jobs have deadlines until the end of s...

Simulation Study: The Role of Area to Volume Ratio and Key Parameters in Cylindrical Micro Combustors

Abstract   A new micro combustion concept is described in this work by introducing a new terminology in the micro combustion. The effects of Area to Volume Ratio (AVR) of the micro-combustors were studied to find the best performance of designed micro-combustors. In order to test the feasibility of the designed micro combustors before the actual experiment is conducted, simulation work was perf...

Partial Observation in Distributed Supervisory Control of Discrete-Event Systems

Distributed supervisory control is a method to synthesize local controllers in discrete-eventsystems with a systematic observation of the plant. Some works were reported on extending this methodby which local controllers are constructed so that observation properties are preserved from monolithic todistributed supervisory control, in an up-down approach. In this paper, we find circumstances in ...

Analysis of Performance Bottlenecks in Multithreaded Multiprocessor Systems

The performance of modern multiprocessor systems is often limited by the delays of interconnections or long latencies of memory subsystems. Instruction–level multithreading is a technique to tolerate such long latencies by switching from one instruction thread to another and continuing instruction execution concurrently with the long–latency operations. Using timed Petri net models, the paper a...
